Just one more sleep until the big night!! 113 guests will be dressing up tomorrow and meeting us at the glamourous Aviator Hotel in Farnborough, ready to enjoy great music, superb food and magical entertainment.
I'm sure there will be a great buzz about the fantastic auction lots and exciting raffle prizes! Step by Step would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers who have made this night possible, our guests for joining us and all of the fabulous local companies who have donated auction and raffle prizes.
We're sure lots of money will be raised for the great cause and in turn lots of young, vulnerable people will be helped.
Leanne.

Our Marathon Runner-
Just to let you know that Darren made it successfully round the marathon on Sunday. He said to say thank you so much to all of you who have sponsored him – he’s really delighted at the support he’s received. We will need to do a final total for sponsorship once the money is in and the gift aid has been added but it should be in excess of £1300, beating his target of £1000 significantly.
Darren also managed to achieve his target run time of under 4 hours, although he did have to sprint the last 600 meters! Despite his injury and the killer sprint at the end he was still walking and just about smiling at the end of the race, although he had pretty sore legs and feet. He even managed to walk half a mile before he could find a taxi to get to his car and drive home!
Well done Darren, Step by Step are very proud of you!!

London Marathon
I just wanted to wish Step by Step's 'runner' at the London Marathon the very best of luck for Sunday!
It looks like it's going to be a lovely day for those of us having BBQ's, Pub lunches etc.... but I can't help thinking it'll be very hard going for the marathon runners!!
Our guy Darren has stuck with his commitment of running for us despite a painful injury so on behalf of everyone at Step by Step- thank you and good luck.
In fact good luck to all of this years London Marathon runners- you're the pride of Britain and it's wonderful that so much money will be raised for many worthy causes!
If you would like to sponsor Darren and support Step by Step, please go to- http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/DarrenLaurie
Have a lovely weekend everyone, don't forget the sun cream! :)

Poems written by a Client & new thank you card in the making....
Homeless & Hungry-
"Cold nights on the pavement,
feeling tired & hungry is an understatement,
feelings & thoughts running round,
while you're wandering around,
trying to find a place to rest your head and sleep,
to wake up one day & hope it's one big dream"
Step by Step-
"We will help you get there Step by Step,
From No 8 to Ascot Court,
Step by Step will show support,
Daylight, Cybershed & D'n'A,
to Daylight Designs every Friday"
~ I recently organised a Thank you card competition at Step by Step's 'Daylight Designs' where our young service users go to do a number of productive activities such, jewellery making (with a local volunteer) and card making. I'd seen how fantastic and creative some the cards our clients make and sell through the social enterprise were and I thought who better to capture what Step by Step are about than one of our young people.
I wanted to be able to send something personal and inspiring out to our generous donors and supporters and this young man really captured what I was looking for. Now the project continues with taking this hand drawn and hand written design and turning it into a card we can produce hundreds of..... with the generous time donated by volunteer Professional Photographer Ingrid Weel, she is tutoring some of our young clients to take the pictures needed to make the card come to life. The first shoot is happening tonight after their brain storming and technical session last week and the final shoot is on Wednesday morning,
I can't wait to see the captured images and finished card and hope that the generous supporters of Step by Step like our new style 'Thank you' because without them Step by Step wouldn't be able to help the hundreds of vulnerable young people that need our help to turn their life around. The young man who designed the card has recently started a new job and is working very hard and enjoying it, proving to be a real asset to the community, a happy reminder of why we are here, the great work that Step by Step do in the community and how far donations can go to change a young persons life for the better.
Thank you for reading and keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
Kindest regards,
Leanne Grubb

Sponsor a Client
£11.... what might that buy you these days?
3 glasses of wine/beers in a bar? A few of your favourite magazines? Maybe 3.5 of your favourite venti Starbucks? Certainly once it's cash in your pocket/purse it doesn't seem to last very long.... or is that just me??
What about a much more satisfying for the soul 'purchase'? £11 would sponsor a young homeless person in need for one week at Step by Step!
Step by Step do much more than just provide a warm bed and hot meals, your donation will help provide the services Step by Step offer in helping these vulnerable people achieve their full potential, finding a job, college or training place and eventually a home of their own. Last year almost 8 out of 10 of our service users did just that, please be a part of helping more young people achieve such success in 2010!
You can donate online- http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charities/stepbystep
or send a cheque to Step by Step at 61 Victoria Road, Aldershot, Hampshire, GU11 1SJ.
Thank you, Leanne
In other news- Step by Step's Supportive Lodgings department have made the front page of the Aldershot News & Mail today with their new mother and baby supportive lodgings service, this will offer crucial help to homeless teenage mums and their babies, enabling them to have a better chance in life by finding them a safe place to live. The service aims to offer these vulnerable teens a room in a family home as well as providing them with advice and support from staff at Step by Step. We are seeking carers across Aldershot and the surrounding areas who will be remunerated for rent, food and support provided for the young women.
If you would like to find out more there is a free open evening between 5:30pm and 7pm on April 19 at Step by Step's offices in Victoria Road, Aldershot. Or call Barbara Wolfe on 01252 313158.

The Blind Side and youth homelessness
I recently watched the new movie- The Blind Side. I didn't know very much about it before hand other than Sandra Bullock was blonde in it and won the best actress oscar for the role!! I was unaware it addresed the youth homelessness issue, which came as a very pleasant surprise to me- never fully 'off duty'!
Link to the trailer- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hn5-pxWM6k
Synopsis- Michael Oher knows little about family. Less about football. What the homeless teen knows are the streets and the projects of Memphis. Well-to-do Leigh Anne Tuohy knows little about his world. Yet when she and Michael meet, he's found a home and the Tuohy's have found something just as life changing a beloved new son and brother. This real-life story of family and Michael's growth into a blue-chip football star will have you cheering with it's mix of gridiron action and heart-warming emotion. Share the remarkable journey of the college All-American and first-round NFL draft pick who was a winner before he ever stepped foot on the playing field.
I challenge you to watch this movie and not feel incredibly moved. But the reality is there are thousands and thousands of young homeless people like Michael, many far closer to home than you would like to believe and not many of whom have a happy ending like that, that's why this is a story worthy of it's own movie because it is NOT the norm!! There aren't enough Leigh Anne Tuohy's out there but there is Step by Step!! We can help not just ONE person in Michael's plight but hundreds!! 324 last year to be exact, PLEASE help us, help our communities 'Michaels'..... help us to help hundreds of young people, turn their life around and achieve their full potential.
You can now donate online- http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charities/stepbystep
Or call me for more details about Step by Step and how you could help- 01252 327317 or visit our website to find out about some of our services and appeals- http://www.stepbystep.org.uk/

Thank you BNI- Guildford, what a start to the day!!
Well this morning was an early start for me, one of Step by Step's Supporters Elizabeth of The Redpath Consultancy asked me to substitute for her at her BNI Chapter at the Merrist Wood Golf Club, Guildford. Having been a member of a few Chapters of BNI in a previous post, it took very little convincing! BNI has proven itself to me as the leading referral organisation time and time again, how else would you get to pitch your business to 20-40 business people/owners, all of whom WANT to give you business all before 9am?!
The philosophy of BNI is "Givers Gain" and give is what the generous members of this BNI Chapter and their visitors did this morning!
After giving Elizabeth's 60 second speech about her business I was able to talk about Step by Step, I gave an example of how a young person might become homeless and how a number of our clients come to need our help and I told them about our 'Buy a Brick' Campaign for our New Build. The support was overwhelming and 12 Bricks were bought by BNI members- £120 raised and all before 9am!!
I'd like to say a big thank you to BNI Guildford http://www.bniguildford.com/ for the warm welcome and support you showed me and for giving me a great start to my day, you'll rarely find me so full of beans after a pre 6am start but I was so touched by the support that was shown that you couldn't wipe the smile off of my face if you tried!
Many thanks on behalf of everyone at Step by Step and the young people that we support to-
Ingrid Weel- Ingrid Weel Photography
Bruce Hazelton- The Marvellous Media Company
Michael Lee- Eagles Westinsure
Brian Doubleday- Action Coach (2 Bricks)!
Jodi Bonner- Quin-essence
Angela Hughes- Money Manager at Home
Doug Reeve- Cartridge World
Michael Preece- Bishops Move
Keith McDonald- Just Wills (2 Bricks)!
Merfyn- Ledreag Electrical
Regards- Leanne

Happy Monday everyone!!
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Did anybody see the Sports Relief footage? A good mix of very moving clips and comedy sketches I thought. Rufus Hound dressed and dancing as Cheryl Cole was hilarious and scary to watch in fairly equal measure and 'Smithy' was on great form with some great sports! Wonderful seeing the likes of Becks and Rooney sending themselves up so well!
I didn't manage to get through Fridays show without a tear though, always the way! The part that got me was when Chris Moyles started crying! I don't know if anyone else listens to his show on Radio One but he is always so happy, upbeat and funny so seeing him so moved and upset really got to me. The grief, sadness and injustice he was witnessing was just horrific!
There are so many great causes out there and so much help needed it's hard to know where to start sometimes! I know a lot of people feel strongly that Charity begins at home and like to support their local charities- Step by Step is in as much need as ever, we can only help1 in 3 of the young people referred to us at the moment and we want to help them all! If you wish to donate you can do so online- http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charities/stepbystep
Finally a quick well done to my Brother who managed a 6 mile run for Sport Relief in between two night shifts (ouch)!
Have a great week- Leanne

Good luck to our weekends parachute jumpers!
It's Friday!! Most of us are looking forward to the end of our working day and the weekend ahead! We might have time with family and friends planned, perhaps some shopping or a trip to the cinema?
For two very brave ladies however this weekend means jumping out of a plane!!!! With a parachute I might add but still very, very brave!! Our 'jumpers' from Recruit Event Services are no doubt mentally preparing themselves as I type for the moment on Sunday when they take that leap of faith.
On behalf of Step by Step I want to wish them lots of luck and give our very heartfelt thanks for choosing our Charity for this sponsored event!
If you would like to take part in a FREE Parachute Jump and help raise money for Step by Step (minimum sponsorship level applies) please email me- leanne.grubb@stepbystep.org.uk and I will send you the details.
Thank you for reading and wishing you all a fabulous weekend!!
